Wood Furniture Design

At last!  My semester of wood furniture design class is over, and the final products I am very proud of!

First project- Hand Tool

Second project - Occasional Table

Our first project-  A hand tool of any kind.  I chose to create a bottle opener, shaped as a rhino!  I used a metal bottle opener and wedged it in-between two 2" pieces of cherry, and crafted my rhino.  The bottle opener is in the mouth of the rhino, and it is fully functional.  Quite the conversational piece! Everyone wants to grab-a-hold.

12" long, 4.5" high, 4" wide
Wood: Cherry
Finish: Tung Oil

The second project, occasional table, was the rest of the semester's worth of time.  I wanted to create a serving table for cheese/crackers/wine/beer/chips/dip/etc... I didn't want the classic four-legged table, I wanted an abstract sculptural piece, a piece that defied gravity, that tricked your eye and made it look molded out of plastic.  The "S" was a huge part of this table, and making it come to life was such an amazing experience that had me learning so much as well as having a lot of fun!  Here it is!!

36" long, 27" high, 18" wide(top table) 14" wide(bottom table)
Wood: European Beech
Finish: Wipe-on Poly (oil)

Obama vs. Romney

Obama vs. Romney
watercolor, colored pencil, ink

This is my take on the battle for presidency, since I don't follow politics as much as I should.
They are animalized into their respective democratic and republican parties, and color coded as well.
Since they advertise and debate against each other quite easily saying how the other is unprepared and unconditioned or what have you for the job, attacking each other like animals, while their own plans are generalized and un-specific.
And the big part I see is Romney trying to take Obama's spot, stealing his pin behind his back.
I am very un-opinionated about politics, but
make what you see out of it... and may the best man survive.

"New" Gallery

Another ironic illustration, almost taking a stab at art, society's perception, and what people will fall for.
Also supposed to be humorous :)

See what you think...

BLiSS graffiti

I've also always wanted to combine graffiti with a realistic figure, creating a balance push and pull between abstract forms and reality to create a sense of dynamics, personality, and emotion.

Night's Wrap

You never usually see the hero when he's done for the night...
Acrylic on canvas board
14x20

Studying triangle compositions for this piece.  The strong light source up top forming that triangle downwards towards the figure, the implied triangle from below with the dark pants up to the torso, and the negative space triangles between the arms that create tension where it counts the most, letting the viewer really feel the puling off of the mask.
